What if?

Updated: Jul 20, 2019

Well a very busy week for me this week in Blackpool for the British (Open to the World) Dance Championships. The International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) hosted their annual lunch in the White Tower restaurant on Tuesday. It was wonderful to see so many old friends there and at the Championship. Whilst I was in Blackpool I also found time to see the new film about Elton John called Rocketman. There is a moment in the film when Elton is nervous about going on stage in Los Angeles and then when they coax him out of the loo onto the stage he performs so well that time almost seems to stand still. Sensational.

No doubt we have all experienced self doubt and fear at some time in our life and can look back with mixed feelings at the result. However we should all look back with pride. It does not really matter whether we succeeded or not but whether we had the courage to try. Some of these situations are extremely exposing to our feelings about our self worth. Does the idea/project/speech/performance fail or is it us personally that fail? I really don’t profess to have the answers but I do know that putting yourself out there is the better option. If you don’t have the courage to try then you will always be thinking “what if?”

Of course not everything can end in success. It may turn out not to be the thing we thought would change our life but somewhere in the process we might understand ourselves and others better, and find a different unexpected route.

So the message this week is Courage.
